In Closing Ceremony of the Book Fair, Haddad Adel Said:Book Fair Is a National and Cultural Celebration

TEHRAN, (SCIB) - The Head of Parliament of Islamic Republic of Iran said: "Book Fair is a national and cultural celebration. And the nation, with all scientific and cultural capacities can participate at this movement and achieve to innovation and flourishing."

According to the reporter of Navideshahed; the Head of Parliament of Islamic Republic of Iran delivered speech at the closing ceremony of the 21st International Book Fair of Tehran which was held in "Shabestan" of "Mosalla" yesterday evening on Sunday, May 11th. He said: "I am proud that I am the representative of the people who like book this much. And I am proud to be one of them. With this great welcome, we can imagine the clear scientific and cultural future of the country before our eyes."

Dr Haddad Adel referred to the fact that approximately 600 titles of books were annually published before Islamic Revolution. He added: "But this number has increased to 54,000 titles of books at the present time. This is a sign of cultural freedom. Some tens of titles of books may be prevented to be published. And if they show any of those books to us we will confirm that they cannot be published. Majority of such books either result in tribal arguments or religious arguments. And some of them propagate false beliefs such as religious false mysticisms. The low number of such books is actually nothing compared to 54,000 published books."
He further added: "It is good that Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance allocates an area in the future Book Fair in which important and main libraries of the country attend and introduce themselves to people. Expanding libraries in cities other than Tehran is another activity that can be carried out. All parts of Iran should be flourished and we should not want everything for Tehran. If publishers agree, we can let ordinary people sell their second hand books in open space of the book Fair next year. It causes those people who cannot afford buying new books obtain their favorite books from these people."
In the beginning of the ceremony, Mohsen Parviz, periodical head of the Book Fair said: "I am glad that we finished a book fair full of prosperity and culture. And this Book Fair continues its activities every day more gloriously than the previous day and every year more gloriously than the previous year. And it is the sign of growth and progress in Islamic society of Iran."
He appreciated publishers, writers, translators and all people in charge of producing books and cultural activities. He added: "I express my gratitude to my colleagues in the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, publishing institutions and their families who made efforts day and night. I also express my gratitude to Bank Saderat of Iran, officials of "Mosalla", municipality and Islamic Council of Tehran City as well as 28 foundations and ministries. Holding this fair successfully was impossible without their cooperation."
He also said: "We made efforts to manage the subsidies paid to the books. In this line, we provided electronic shopping cards for university students and students in "Hozeh Elmieh" (Religious school). And considering some problems during 2 or 3 first days of the Book Fair, we have had 233,025 times paying by electronic cards. And the shopping amount of 1 billion 83 million 379 thousand and 579 Tomans and 9 Rials shows relatively success of the electronic cards provided for shopping books from the Book Fair."
In continuation, Parviz presented a report on the 21st International Book Fair of Tehran and said: "1,986 domestic publishers and 780 foreign publishers from 77 countries attended the Book Fair this year. Iranian publishers presented 151,039 titles of books and foreign publishers presented approximately 120,000 titles of books. The number of 270,000 titles of books attracts our attention to hugeness of the Book Fair."
