Ramadhan with Martyrs:

Many Martyrs were Killed while Fasting

Navideshahed: Many martyrs were killed while fasting. Some took their lunch share, but they gave it to their comrades, and they themselves fasted.

Ramadan behind breastworks:

Hujjat al-Islam Ali Akbar Mohammadi, the representative of supreme leader in the Army 42 of Ghadr Arak regarding the memories of Ramadan month in the battlefields said: The prayer at the time of Iftar says about the end of a fasting day; and the prayer of war veterans was full of purification.”?

He said: “The war veterans would get prepared for the evening and night prayers so excitedly. The car for distribution of foods would go to different rifle pits of the war veterans and it would share the foods for Iftar. Simplicity and friendship could be seen in the tablecloth of Iftar obviously and we were so happy that God will provide a blessing and reward because of our fasts. We would come together near the tablecloth and after performing a prayer we would end our fasting day by eating dates and breads. Tavasol and Ashura prayers also had a special atmosphere during those days.”?

The special prayer for Imam of the time and the prayer for Ashura would make our fasting days so fantastic and marvelous. We would get up in the morning with a special intellectuality in order to start our fasting day. In fact those moments are not explainable because of their goodness. The prayers and fasting of the Ramadan month in the battlefields had purified the war veterans and they could be considered as the excellent humans of the earth.

I can not express the atmosphere of these days for you. We were in the Army 28 of Sanandaj and we were supposed to return home after a week. But the attractions of this month made me to stay in Kurdistan province. Ramadan month created the best and most beautiful memories for us in our rifle pits.

The blessing of prayer near the rifle pits, performing prayer on the dusty ground, eating breakfast near our R.P.G weapons and guns, washing our hands and faces with cold water, prayer during the midnights standing in front of the sky without any barrier that prevents us from seeing the beauty of God, the crying of lover Basijis during bowing… had prepared everything for being a guest of God.

The memories of martyr Reza Sadeghi Yonesi

Many of the war veterans were martyred while they had fasting. Some of the war veterans would give the share of their lunch to their comrades and they themselves had fasting.

For the first time that I went to the battlefields of Iran-Iraq war, it was close to Qadr night. When the Qard night arrived along with some of my comrades we went to the place where Ehya prayer was supposed to be held. From the total 350 war veterans of the battalion, only twenty persons had come there. I got so surprised.

It was a question for me that why many of the war veterans have not attended the Ehya prayer, I thought maybe they is not aware of this issue. I got out from the place where Ehya prayer was being held. There was a desert behind our headquarters which had many valleys. I moved towards the desert, when I arrived close to the valleys, I observed that between each valley, there is a war veteran who was reading and exciting Koran. Since the sound of Ehya prayer would be broadcasted from the speakers, the war veterans could hear the voice of Ehya prayer and they were worshipping God in their loniness. Later I noticed that 20 others had come there for mourning occasion and Ehya prayer and they were the newcomers like me.
This event occurred once again as well. There was a place between Dezful and Andimeshk which had many orange eucalyptus trees so much and we had named it forest. When the Iraqi Baathist regime bombarded the garrison, they had camouflaged their forces in the forest. There was no any hills there, but the war veterans themselves had made some trenches and they would go inside the trenches and they would worship God in loneliness.

Martyr Mohammad Kazem Nezhad

The mother of this martyr says: My son Mohammad was so regular in performing his prayer on time and having fast. He would take fast from the age of 8 and he would perform prayer at the same age as well. He would awaken all of us for the Morning Prayer. Even he would encourage us to take fast during the other months of the year as well. Each time that he would come on leave from the battlefields, he would go on fasting everyday.

Someday I asked: My dear son! Why do you go on fasting so much? He said: My mom, I have not had fasting the battlefields. Now I’m trying to compensate the fasting that I did not perform in the war. In fact I’m doing my duty.”?

I said: “I hope God will accept your fasting, so what do you want me to cook for you for your fasting breakfast?”?

He said: “He said we have eggs. You can cook eggs for me, so that I can use them as fasting breakfast.”?

When he had returned from the battlefields, he noticed that I had a fast. He asked: why have you gone on fasting?

I said: “I vowed. I vowed that God willing you will return home safe and sound!”?

He laughed and he said: “That is why because of your vowing nothing happens to me in the battlefields of war.”?

After that he said: “I was in one of the war zones along with 9 other comrades. Suddenly a bomb exploded in front of us. All of them were martyred except me. At the time of return, all the comrades were looking at me so surprisingly and they had been so surprised because I was the only one that survived from the collection of ten persons and even no part of my body had been wounded.”?

Intellectuality in the battlefields

The difference of Iran and Iraq battles was in the facilities and the equipments that the forces had access to.

The difference was in a way that all the military experts would consider the Iraqi regime as the winner of war because it had been completely equipped with much munitions, weaponries and facilities. But what had been ignored by the military experts was the intellectuality and spirituality that the Iranian war veterans had. They would be surprised when the Iraqi forces would be badly defeated by the Iranian forces. Due to this intellectuality, the shortages of facilities and equipment would not lead to their failures at all.

In the battlefields of Iran, the Iranian forces had faced with the shortage of foods the same as munitions as well.

The shortage of foods in the frontiers had created a special intellectuality for the Iranian forces. Each time that they would get one piece of date, they would try to share it to others or when they would get water, they would try to offer it to others because they liked their comrades to eat the foods or drink the water at first. In fact they were so generous and kind.

Still the sweets of Ramadan moth has a special atmosphere among the survivors of the war! It was the sweet which its oil had remained in the downside and the oil would be removed and its sugar was from the remains of what would be given to the war veterans in order to drink tea, or what they would bring with themselves each time that they would go on leave.

The flour for that was from the dried breads which most of them had been ruined. The Ramadan Month sweets would be made so simply, but they would not be forgotten simply too.
